If you’ve just downloaded TRACER for the purpose of sharing your scorecards with a team captain, here’s a brief primer that will get you on your way.
This guide assumes that you’ve already downloaded the app to your phone, and you’ve tapped into it.
You will likely have been provided with the following information, which the instructions below will require:
- A group name to join
- A group password (optional)
- A tag to apply to scorecards.
Logging in
When you load the app, it will request that you log in with a username and password. The username is usually your email address (there are some exceptions for early users who log in with a different username), and a password that is sent to you by email when you join.
- If you haven’t already signed up, you need to tap the Register new account to create an account. An email will be sent to you with the randomly generated password.
- Once you have the login details, log in with your email and the password that was emailed to you.
Groups and tags (background information)
Before we start to add any scorecards, you need to be aware of what tags and groups are.
Groups are like shared folders, which can be set up by team captains to view groups of scorecards (e.g. from
Any scorecard that you enter into TRACER can be assigned a tag. This is just a word, or combination of words and numbers, that will be provided by your team management or captain, and can be assigned to any card that you want to be shared. Depending on who wants to see the cards, the tag will be different, and you need to make sure that the tag is correctly entered for the scorecard to be shared.
Please note that tags are only meant for sharing of scorecards. Although you can add any value, it’s only recommended that you add tags that are ‘official’, sent to you by your team management/captain.
Joining a group
When you first log in, your team management is likely to have provided you with details of a group to join, you may also have been provided with a group password which is required to restrict who can join the group. Note that this group password is different from the tag which is applied to each of the scorecards to share with the group.
To join the group:
- Go to the Profile tab at the bottom of the app
- Tap Group shares
- Select the group that you wish to join.
- Tap Join group
- If the group requires you to enter the password to join, you will be asked for it at this point.
- If joining has been successful, you should see a tick appear next to the group under the Joined? column.
Entering scorecards
Before or after you have joined the group, you will need to enter your scorecards. There is help documentation, including a video, on how to do this, so this is not covered here.
Applying tags
As above, all the scorecards that you wish to share with your team management/captain need to be provided with the appropriate tag.
You can do this individually for each scorecard you create, set a default tag for every scorecard you create going forward (if you just want all your future scorecards to be shared), or retrospectively for scorecards already on the system but which don’t yet have the tag applied.
Applying a default tag to all future scorecards
Most people will want to choose this option. Once a default tag is set, you can create new scorecards without having to worry about adding the tag manually.
To do this:
- Go to the Profile tab at the bottom of the app screen
- Tap Preferences in the top right
- Scroll down to Scorecard defalts -> Default tags
- Tap to add a new tag.
- You will be asked for the tag(s).
- Once done, you can click Done.
At this point you will notice that the tag you entered is automatically displayed in the Event details -> tags section of the Scorecard settings of new scorecards you create.
Applying tags individually to scorecards
You can view/edit tags for each scorecard you view.
- Open a scorecard
- Tap Settings at the top of the screen
- Scroll to Event details -> Tags.
- Tap to add a new tag, or press the X next to an existing tag to remove it.
- Save the scorecard.
- Don’t forget to tap Sync on the main page of the app to synchronise the changes with the server.
Retrospectively apply tags to existing scorecards
If you’ve got a lot of scorecards already in the system which you want to apply or remove a tag from, you can do this in one operation.
- On the main scorecard list page, tap … in the top right, then Select (modify/export).
- Now select all of the scorecards you wish to apply/remove a tag from.
- Tap Modify.
- Now select Modify tags
- Tap the Add tags and Remove tags options to add and remove tags the tags you wish.
- Tap Modify to make all of the required changes.
- Don’t forget to tap Sync on the main page of the app to synchronise the changes with the server.
The importance of synchronising
Once you make any changes to scorecards or tags, you will need to synchronise the changes with the server. If you don’t do this, sharing permissions you make with tags will not become effective.
To do this:
- Go to the scorecard list page
- Tap Sync in the top right of the screen.
They synchronise process may take a few seconds, and slightly longer if you’re uploading new scorecards, as it also sends the photograph of the scorecard to the server.
